RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -Northern Nevada’s largest surgery group has changed locations, and with it offering a device which until now was only available at local hospitals.
Western Surgical Group has changed locations from next door to Renown Medical Center to Wedge Parkway.
The medical group is now in the same building as Galena Surgery Center.
The outpatient facility will also house the da Vinci surgical system. This is the only out-patient surgery center to offer the da Vinci locally.
Physicians with Western Surgical Group say the device offers patients an option along with benefits from the da Vinci.
“It allows for minimal invasive surgery, which general speaking,” says Dr. Alvaro Devia. “Better patient outcomes, better recovery, lower infection rates, lower conversion to open procedures. That’s all been validated by studies. “
Dr. Devia says the da Vinci will be in one of two surgery suites at Galena Surgery Center.
He says for him the device has proven itself during colon and hernia center.
By performing these surgeries in an out-patient surgery center the costs are lower than when the procedure is performed in a hospital.
Not all patients are good candidates for the da Vinci.
A good consultation with their physician will determine when, where and how their recommended surgical procedure should be performed.
