- Avoid solid food after midnight before surgery (adults and older children).
- Drink only approved clear liquids (water, Gatorade, Pedialyte) up to a few hours before check-in.
- Stop medications and supplements as directed by your surgeon.
- Shower with antibacterial soap the night before and morning of surgery.
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing and avoid jewelry, makeup, or lotion.
Step 2: Special Instructions For Pediatric Patients
Children have slightly different fasting and preparation requirements:
- Under 10 years: no solid food 8 hours before; clear liquids allowed up to 2 hours before.
- Ages 10 and older: no solid food after midnight; clear liquids allowed up to 4 hours before.
